Why a Safe Home Matters in Mityana

A safe home is more than a roof. In Mityana, safe water, sanitation, electricity and stable daily care cannot always be taken for granted.

Mityana’s 2024 census records show that 25.3% of households used an unimproved drinking-water source, 41.8% were without improved sanitation when unimproved sanitation and open defecation are combined, and 32.6% used grid electricity as their main source of lighting.

“Improved water” does not necessarily mean running water inside a home. It can include a borehole, protected spring or public tap within an accepted distance. In the same way, improved sanitation does not necessarily mean a sewer connection.

For Purple Rose, Safe Home & Daily Care means children live with safe water, suitable sanitation, electricity, clean clothing, beds, routines and responsible adults who are consistently present.

These basic conditions create the stability children need to stay healthy, feel secure, attend school and grow in a safe environment.
