Purple Rose is not only a home for children. It is also part of the community around it.
As a Community Based Organisation, Purple Rose is rooted in a legal and social model that is connected to the wellbeing of the local community.
In Mityana, 23,813 of 110,604 households were recorded in the 2024 census as households in a subsistence economy, about 21.5%. This does not mean that all of those households are poor; it shows that a significant part of the local economy is based on production that directly supports household needs rather than fully monetised employment or business activity.
The relationships around Purple Rose are practical and local. The home buys produce locally, neighbours may share what they grow, and Purple Rose responds when it can with food, hygiene or other practical support for families in vulnerable circumstances.
That relationship is not one-way charity. Community & Connection is about mutual support, dignity, local relationships and belonging.
